There is usually no reason for Penn State fans to pay close attention to football camps in Florida. http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/story/1756202-nation-s-...
The 2017 Opening in the Orlando area Sunday was a different story. Justin Fields, the Georgia native who committed to the Nittany Lions back in December, did more than simply attend the Nike event.
He dominated it.
The 6-foot-3, 221-pounder won quarterback MVP honors and become just the second player nationally to earn an invite to the 2017 Elite 11 Finals. Fields also turned heads by running a 4.51-second 40-yard dash.
Here is what Scout's John Garcia had to say about Fields following the camp.
The blue-chip Penn State commitment spun the ball with power and consistency on this day. He anticipated breaks well and knew when to take something off of the ball when necessary. Fields threw well on the move in drills and saw the same success in the one-on-one portion and seven-on-seven portion of the camp. He had perhaps the best showcase run of the five quarterbacks selected, completing more passes than not en route to not only the MVP award, but also a coveted invitation to the Elite 11 Finals in the process. He is just the second arm to earn the honor through two The Opening regional camps. Fields turned heads early in the day with a 4.51 40-yard dash at just over 220 pounds, too.
