FOS Goes One On One With 2019 S Nyquee Hawkins

The New Jersey standout talks about his long relationship with the Nittany Lions and much more.

New Jersey Class of 2019 safety standout Nyquee Hawkins has been to Penn State so many times, he’s lost count.

His first trip to Happy Valley was for a football camp back in 2014, when he was heading into eighth grade. By his recollection, he was 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds at the time.

Though one of the youngest players at the camp that year, he created a serious buzz with a triple broad jump of better than 31 feet — reportedly one of the best of that particular session.

Three years later, Hawkins is pushing 6-foot and tipping the scales at 180 pounds. Penn State was one of the first schools to offer a scholarship, and since then fellow heavy hitters like Michigan, Michigan State and Virginia Tech have followed suit.

We caught up with Hawkins recently at The Opening in New Jersey, taking a bit of a deep dive into his long relationship with the Nittany Lion coaches, a recent trip to Happy Valley, when he hopes to get back to PSU, his time frame for a college decision, the possibility of enrolling early and much more.

See what he had to say — and get to know him a little bit — in the video above.
