Catching Up With Penn State's 4-Star TE Commits

Pat Freiermuth and Zack Kuntz tackled a variety of topics when we talked to them at The Opening recently. Get the lowdown.

One of the more interesting sights at The Opening Regional in New Jersey recently was former Penn State commit Micah Parsons working out at linebacker and testing his pass-rush skills against the tight ends.

As fate would have it, two four-star players who are committed to the Nittany Lions — Pat Freiermuth and Zack Kuntz — were among the tight ends.

They only butted heads with Parsons a couple of times — and the natural defensive end clearly had an edge on ALL of the tight ends at the camp. But when Parsons took reps against other tight ends, Freiermuth and Kuntz were both cheering him on.

They are all still close.

“We’re cool with him,” Kuntz said. “We know what he wants to do with his recruiting process. That’s his decision. We were just cheering on a hometown kid.”

Like Parsons, Kuntz is from the Harrisburg, Pa., area.

Another Penn State commit — receiver Justin Shorter — was one of the best players at the camp. He was the fastest man there, was named receiver/tight end MVP and earned an invite to The Opening’s national event in Oregon later this summer.

“The future is bright for Penn State,” Kuntz said.

In the video above, we talk to both Nittany Lion tight end commits.

How tall is the towering Kuntz now? How do you pronounce Freiermuth’s last name? What are their summer plans? And how much are they recruiting other players?

Oh yeah, and is a recent big offer giving Freiermuth any reason to re-think his PSU commitment?
