TE Has Two Big Ten Offers

Dave Peck, a teammate of PSU commitment Dan Connor, plays tight-end for Strath Haven High in Wallingford, PA. He currently has 4 scholarship offers, two from Big Ten teams. Are the Nittany Lions still involved?

Name: Dave Peck
Position: TE
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 225 pounds
40-Yard Dash: 4.75 seconds (at PSU camp)
School: Strath Haven High School, Wallingford, PA

Strath Haven is currently 5-0 this season. A win tonight against Haverford would be the Panthers 69th consecutive regular season victory, the current state record.

Although his stats won't jump out at you, Dave Peck has been a big contributor to the success of the Panthers from both his tight-end and outside linebacker positions.

"We're a running team, so I don't have a lot of stats," explained Dave. Peck, though, finds enjoyment in some of the less glamorous aspects of the game. "I love blocking. It's just something I've come to love."

Dave currently has scholarship offers from 4 schools: Wisconsin, Syracuse, Minnesota and Navy.

"There are a couple of other places expressing interest. Pitt has been expressing interest, but I don't think they're going to offer. From what I understand, they already have a bunch of offers out to tight-ends, but I don't know. Who knows, but I've been getting calls from them. West Point has expressed some interest and Northwestern a little bit, but not very much."

What have college coaching staffs indicated they like most about his game?

"Mostly, I think a lot of people want me to play the H-back position. I think it's mostly receiving and I'm also the long snapper. I think that's helped me out a lot. It's something I like to play. One of our coaches down here is Pat Evans. He went to Minnesota as a tight-end/long snapper and then played in the NFL. He's helped me a lot with that."

Peck has already visited 3 of the 4 schools that have offered him a scholarship.

"This past summer, I was out to Wisconsin and Minnesota, and I was down at Navy also. I haven't visited Syracuse yet, but I plan on getting out there soon. They offered right towards the beginning of this season, so my summer was pretty much over and I didn't get a chance to go out there."

He is planning to take his official visits in December.

"I plan on taking some [official visits], but I'm trying to figure out where my team is going to be down the road first before I officially set up anything. But I'll be taking official visits to all those places."

Despite the fact that Dave attended summer camp at Penn State the past 4 years, the Nittany Lions do not appear to be very interested at this time.

"I was there (PSU camp) my freshman, sophomore and junior year, and I went up for testing my senior year. That was just for one day.

"I haven't heard from them in a long time.

"I've been a Penn State fan since I was a little kid, but, you know. I've been a season ticket holder for I guess 6 years. I've seen the best and the worst of those teams up there. I haven't missed many games, and this year I've been taking visits to other places, so it's just kind of hard now.

"I was up last weekend to see Minnesota play and I'm going up this weekend to watch Wisconsin play."

Does he have a favorite?

"They're all right there. Of course, I do have one in mind, but I'm not going to share that with the world yet."

If he decides to become a Badger or Golden Gopher, Dave could end up lining up across from his present teammate.

"I've been wondering what it felt like to be tackled by Dan," Dave laughed.
