PSU Contacts VanAlstyne

Now that Head Coach Bob Davie has been fired at Notre Dame, Penn State has been back in contact with Indiana LB Jeremy VanAlstyne, who had committed to the Irish in August.

Name: Jeremy VanAlstyne
Position: LB
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 238 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.78
Bench Press: 335 pounds
School: Center Grove High School, Greenwood, IN

According to Jeremy, some schools, mainly Michigan and Purdue, had been in contact with him even before the firing of Coach Davie.  These schools, and others, have been in contact with Jeremy since the firing.  Jeremy is not turning anyone away at this point.

"Yeah, Penn State just called tonight, and a bunch of other schools."

Penn State linebacker coach Ron Vanderlinden is recruiting Jeremy.

"I always had a top 3 between Michigan, Penn State and Notre Dame."

What separated the Irish from the Nittany Lions?

"A lot of it was that Notre Dame is a lot closer to home.  It's about 3 hours away.

"I was going to take an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, but I don't think that's going to work out.  The athletic director called me, and he just said that we're going to wait and have me take my official visit later on when the head coach gets there."

Jeremy was told that Notre Dame could have a new head coach in 7 to 10 days.

Jeremy visited Penn State this past summer.

"I went with my parents on an unofficial visit.  Coach Vanderlinden gave us a tour.  We got to see everything.  It looked a lot like Bloomington, Indiana where IU is.  It's the same kind of atmosphere."

Jeremy really enjoyed his visit to State College, which is why Penn State was among his top 3 teams prior to his commitment to Notre Dame.
