Jonathan Lewis Will Visit Penn State

He is considered by many to be one of the top defensive linemen in the country, and has the offers to prove it. He lists Penn State among his top 5 teams.

Name: Jonathan Lewis
Position: DT / TE (plays TE about 40% of the time)
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 285 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.8
Bench Press: 400 pounds
School: Varina High School, Richmond, Virginia
Offers: over 40

Varina is currently 5-0 this year.  Jonathan has approximately 3 sacks so far, 2 coming in his last game.

"The first couple of games, they kind of ran away from me," Jonathan said.  "But, the last 2 games, I had about 12 tackles [2 games ago], and this past game I had around 10 tackles and 2 sacks.  So, I'm starting to kind of rev up for this year."

He is considered by many to be one of the top defensive lineman in the country, and has the offers to prove it.

"Altogether, I probably have over 40 offers.  I've kind of narrowed it down to 5: Florida State, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Penn State.  They all said that I could come in and play early."

Jonathan has a brother, Kevin Lewis, who plays DT for Virginia Tech.

"He's a redshirt sophomore.  He's redshirting this year.  He played last year.  It gives him an opportunity to start for 3 years.  We're about the same size."

Does that give Virginia Tech a leg up on the others?

"It might. It might give Virginia Tech an advantage."

Jonathan is also friends with former Varina QB Michael Robinson, who committed to Penn State in February.

"We're real close.  I talk to him a lot, and we get along pretty well.  The last time I saw him was last Monday when we talked.  He likes it [Penn State].  I think he might sit out and redshirt this year, and get the job next year.  If they really, really need him this year, he'll probably step in.  He didn't mind redshirting."

Jonathan also likes Coach Kenney, who is recruiting him for Penn State.  He has not talked to Larry Johnson or Joe Paterno.

He has scheduled official visits to Virginia Tech on 12/8, and Virginia on 1/18.  Jonathan said that he will officially visit his other 3 favorites, although he does not have anything set up yet.

Jonathan has already visited Virginia and Virginia Tech unofficially.  He attended a camp at Virginia this year.  He is also planning to attend the Virginia game Saturday against Florida State.

Jonathan did acknowledge having a slight favorite at this point in time.

"Probably Tech, because I've been there more.  After I take my visits, I'll know."

Jonathan plans on majoring in history.
