Steve Breaston has been instrumental in leading Woodland Hills to an 8-0 record. His Wolverines are currently ranked by USA Today as the 12th best high school team in the nation. Steve will play any position necessary to help his team win.
"I play QB, WR and DB (CB/S)," the multi-talented Breaston said. "I return punts and kicks too. The first half of the season, I was playing both [QB and WR]. Now, I'm playing QB and DB."
Steve does more running than throwing as a QB.
"Last week, I averaged around 13.7 yards per carry. We have a running type offense. We do a lot of quarterback sweeps and stuff like that. We don't throw that much, maybe 5% of the time."
Steve is being recruited as a WR, QB, DB, and some are recruiting him as an athlete.
"I don't have a favorite position right now. I just like to play everywhere. Northwestern is recruiting me as a QB. Iowa said they are recruiting me as a QB. Michigan is recruiting me as an athlete. Pitt is recruiting me as a WR, so is Boston College and a number of other schools. Most are saying WR."
Steve said that he is not favoring schools that are recruiting him as a QB, as has been reported.
"I really don't have any favorites right now. I can just give you some names off the top of my head like Michigan, Pitt, Penn State, Notre Dame, Boston College, Maryland and Georgia Tech. Everybody's pretty equal. I haven't really sat down and thought about it yet. I'm just focusing on my season."
He later added Northwestern, Michigan State and Iowa to the above list of teams he's thinking about.
Steve, along with several players on the Woodland Hills team, attended a 7-on-7 passing camp at Northwestern this summer. Along the way, they stopped and visited several other schools, namely Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Notre Dame. He has visited Pitt and Penn State on occasion as well. He attended the Penn State vs. Michigan game a couple of weeks ago.
What does he like about Penn State?
"The tradition they have up there with Joe Paterno. He's a good coach. He's having a down year right now, but, I mean, for all he's done, you're allowed to have a down year."
He watched the Northwestern game this weekend.
"That was a big win for them, a lot of offense."
Steve says that he and teammate Brian Borgoyn (OL), also being recruited by many of the same schools, do not really talk about recruiting. Steve will make his decision independent of Brian.
Steve is not concerned with prospective team's records either. His decision will be most affected by social aspects, rather that just football.
"It's going to be the people. I have to feel comfortable around the people and the environment around me."
He does not have any official visits set and has "no idea" at this time as to which teams he will visit. He is already qualified and plans to study to become a history teacher. Go to the Steve Breaston post on the Premium Subscriber Board for more inside info.
