Last year's Cumberland Valley football team finished 12-1 and sent both Dan Lawlor and Wyatt Bowman to Penn State. This year CV has another big time prospect in WR/DB Andrew "Bubba" Heisler. As a junior Bubba was a first team Mid Penn Conference selection on defense and was named to the second team on offense. At wide receiver he grabbed 4 touchdown passes and averaged over 20 yards per reception. Heisler principally played cornerback on defense but occasionally moved to safety in nickel alignments. He nabbed 7 interceptions last season.
An excellent athlete, Bubba also plays basketball and participates in track, where he does the triple jump, the pole vault and runs the 100 and 200. Heisler's best time in the 100 is 11.2 seconds.
Bubba is already fully qualified academically with a 90.68 average on a 100 scale and 950 on the college boards (he's taking them again on March 27). He is being recruited principally as a wide receiver and, while not having any offers yet, has received interest from some top quality schools. Lion News recently had the opportunity to talk with Heisler and asked him which colleges were showing the most interest.
He told us, "Probably Boston College and Iowa. They're who I've been getting stuff from the most. I'm going to visit Virginia to go the Nike camp. I've been following Penn State a lot since I was a kid, so I like Penn State. I went to their camp last year and a team camp the year before. I went to the Wisconsin game. And I went up for the heck of it one time with my sister." Has he visited any other schools? "I've seen Pitt and that's about it." Has Pitt shown interest? "I've gotten some letters from them. We have family up there so I'm up in that area a lot." Do you have any interest in Pitt? "Yeah, it's a pretty big school and I follow a lot of their sports teams." Any other visits planned in the near future? "I might visit Maryland and maybe the Naval Academy."
We asked Bubba if he had a favorite at this point.
"I kind of like Penn State. They have really nice facilities and it seems like good coaches. A lot of players from my school have went there. Jesse Neumyer (an ex-Penn State player who gave up football because of injury) lives two doors down from me. So I basically like Penn State. "
Bubba told us he had been receiving letters from Penn State. We asked them if the Penn State coaches had been talking to Coach Rimpfel (CV's coach) about him. "Probably. Coach talks to them a lot. I think he sent them game film on me a couple of weeks ago."
