Wide-Receiver Will Return to Penn State

Scotland PA wide-receiver Jarmal Ruffin will visit Penn State for this weekend's Blue/White game. How interested are the Nittany Lions? Which teams are expressing the most interest in the talented receiver?

Name: Jarmal Ruffin
Position: WR
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 200 pounds
40-Yard dash: 4.45 seconds
School: Scotland Sch Veterans Children, Scotland, PA

Jarmal Ruffin had yet another outstanding season for Scotland last year, averaging an impressive 20 yards after the catch. Several colleges took notice and have been contacting him regularly. LionNews decided to check back with Jarmal to see how recruiting was going.

"Everything's been going well," said Jarmal. "I've just been really trying to go through the mail. I'm also going to try to get around to a couple colleges if I can."

Ruffin visited Penn State for a junior day in February. He has not yet visited any other schools.

"I was supposed to go down to West Virginia, but I had other events that prevented me from going. Right now, I'm doing track. I'm only throwing (discus) right now, but I'm about to start doing hurdles again, and probably the 4x100."

Jarmal will be returning to State College this Saturday.

"I'm going to Penn State's Nike Camp and I'm going to their Blue and White game this weekend with [teammate] Greg [Robinson] and my coach."

Jarmal is looking forward to showcasing his skills at the May Nike Camp.

"That's a lot of exposure and I'm looking forward to it because I'm at a small school and there are not that many good looks at me in the right position. So, hopefully I can shine there, show a little bit of my talents."

What does he hope to showcase?

"Overall skills, like the way I read defenses, my hands, show them my catching ability and my speed."

The last time Jarmal was timed in the 40-yard dash, he registered around a 4.45.

"Hopefully, I'm faster than that now. I'm trying to get down to like a 4.3."

Although Jarmal does not yet have any scholarship offers, the number of big-time programs interested in him continues to grow. He listed Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan and Pittsburgh as showing the most interest right now. Who does he like?

"Actually, I'm really interested in three teams I named: Pittsburgh, Penn State and Michigan State. I'm starting to get some more interest in Tennessee and Georgia, because I heard they have a good schooling program down there and that would be nice to kind of get away from home a little bit and [experience] good weather. I really want to get down there to see their campuses."
