Will SS/OLB Join PSU This Fall?

Lion News learned that there was another visitor at Penn State this past Saturday, namely senior SS/OLB Jon Piorkowski. Jon hails from Missouri and is exploring the possibility of playing football at Penn State.

Name: Jon Piorkowski
Position: SS, OLB
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 205 pounds
40-Yard dash: 4.46 seconds
School: Emil E. Holt Sr. HS, Wentzville, MO

"Right now, it's Baylor, Penn State and Kansas," said Jon enumerating his possible fall destinations as a preferred walkon. "Kansas has put me on their '105'. The '105' is how many people they are allowed to have at their [preseason] camp, considered their roster. Penn State is discussing it and they said that they'd pretty much be able to get me in, that it wouldn't be a problem, but they can't guarantee me anything yet. They're going to tell me tomorrow (Friday) whether or not I get in. Baylor can't decide until June.

"They all said that I could come on as a walkon and earn my scholarship. They're pretty confident on that."

Piorkowski visited Baylor during spring break earlier this month (and about a month before that as well), Penn State on Saturday and Kansas on Wednesday. He thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Penn State this past Saturday.

"I went with my dad and it was really great. We went up there and we met with Coach McQueary. We viewed the campus and we viewed all the football activities. I met with Joe Paterno and I talked to him for a little bit. He was going to review my film and get back to me tomorrow (Friday). That was my first time there. [The campus] was pretty awesome. It was something special.

Jon will play either strong safety or outside linebacker in college. He played free safety for Wentzville-Holt last season and registered 105 tackles in 13 games earning him 2nd Team Class 4 All-State honors. The Indians finished 10-3.

"I've always been set on going to [Division} Ia. It's been my dream since I was a little kid. Nobody really found out about me until after they let out all their scholarships. My junior year, our coach was really set on only playing on one side of the ball and they put me on offense (fullback) instead of my defensive position. So, I didn't get any recruiting done my junior year which is kind of a big deal for D-Ia. Senior year, I played my safety position, but I didn't get my stuff out until after the season was over. Everybody says they want me to play for them, they want me to be a preferred walkon, but they don't have scholarships for me because I'm too late."

The Nittany Lions appear to have a slight edge at this point. Here's what Jon had to say about his three favorites.

Penn State: "Their football is just tremendous. I love the town and everything."

Baylor: "It has the Christian aspect that I really like. I also like the south."

Kansas: "Kansas is close to home, it's like 4 hours away. The others are of course much further away."
