Another Offer for D.C. Wide-Receiver

James McDonald from Dunbar HS in Washington, D.C. received his 4th written scholarship offer on Tuesday. James discusses his future visit plans and talks about his favorites.

Name: James McDonald
Position: WR
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 185 pounds
40-Yard dash: 4.55 seconds
School: Dunbar HS, Washington, DC

"Yesterday, I was offered by Mississippi State," James said Wednesday evening. "I've been offered by Penn State, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Boston College, Kent State and Syracuse."

The scholarship offers from the first four mentioned are in writing. He listed Maryland, Virginia and Michigan as other schools showing serious interest.

"Maryland hasn't offered me yet. They're telling me they're going to offer me after they get a clocked time from me this year."

It's been a while since McDonald was timed in the 40-yard dash.

"The most recent was last summer at Maryland's football camp (4.62). I think I'm much faster now. I'd guess 4.55."

James attended Maryland's camp last summer as well as their junior day this year. He plans to hit a few more camps this year.

"I'm going to the Elite Camp on May 5, the Penn State Nike Camp on May 15 and I'm going to the Maryland camp later on this summer.

"The Elite Camp is an invitation-only camp in Rutherford, New Jersey in Giant Stadium. They just invited the top players on the Atlantic Coast."

Although Penn State is having a junior day weekend during the weekend of the Nike Camp, McDonald currently plans only to attend the Nike Camp on Saturday. Has he ever been to Penn State?

"No, I'm looking forward to going."

Who are his early favorites right now?

"Penn State is my early favorite. Penn State, Pittsburgh and I've always liked Maryland, being a hometown person. And, I like Notre Dame, Mississippi State and Wisconsin. There are a lot of schools right now, a lot of schools just going through my head right now."

What makes Penn State his number one team right now?

"I wouldn't say that they're number one, but they're up there. They're one of my favorites. If I had to name a top 3, it would be Penn State, Maryland and Pittsburgh."

Penn State: "I just like their tradition and they have a legendary coach. I'd love to play for him and I see that they recruited a lot of linemen and they recruited like the top prospect quarterback out of their state, so I see that they're trying to open up their passing game. They haven't started recruiting any big-time receivers yet, so I could play a big part in their offense. They said they're looking for at least one big-time receiver and maybe like 3 or 4 more."

Maryland: "I always was a hometown person and I grew up watching Maryland. I've seen them play a lot and I see that they have an open passing game. They recruited a lot of top quarterbacks, so I see that their future is probably leaning towards an open passing game."

Pittsburgh: "The emergence of Larry Fitzgerald really attracted me to that school last year. Last year, I took an unofficial visit up to Pittsburgh and I got to meet one of the coaches."

McDonald stays in contact with coaches from each school on his favorites list via email. Coach Larry Johnson and Mike McQueary are the PSU coaches he keeps in touch with.

Who was the first to offer?

"Penn State, then next was Pittsburgh, then after that was Connecticut and then Mississippi State."

James currently appears to want to make a decision before his senior season starts.

His teammate, offensive lineman Kevin Wiggins, is also being highly recruited. Do the two ever talk about attending the same college?

"Yeah, all the time."
