|Hometown/School:||Salem HS, Salem, NJ|
Last football season, Lamont Robinson was a standout at both running back and linebacker for Salem HS. His stock as a linebacker has been on the rise during the off season and his performance at this weekend's Nike Camp did nothing to reduce the interest level in this outstanding prospect. Lion News had a chance for a brief chat with Robinson during the Nike Camp weekend at Penn State.
We asked Lamont how he did in the Nike workouts.
"I didn't run the 40. The shuttle, I ran a 4.29. I did the bench press. I got 20 reps at that. The vertical jump, I think it was a 27 and 9."
Did he participate in either of the Penn State junior days?
"No. I just came here for today. I wasn't able to make the junior day they had this week because of time restrictions in track and everything."
Lamont already has several scholarship offers.
"I have about 8 on paper, but then I got about 15 people who told me they are going to get the papers to me real soon."
Who are some of the favorites who have offered?
"I really don't have a favorite right now. I'm using this mini-period to see who's interested in me. Whoever calls or stops by or has any interest in me, those are the people I'll make contact with over the summertime. As far as making a list, that will probably come around late August or early September before we start the season."
What schools are showing the most interest?
"One of the most interested teams in me is the University of Virginia. They like me a whole lot. Also, Boston College, Syracuse, Rutgers. Maryland likes me a whole lot. Michigan State and Michigan, they both like me.
Have all those schools offered?
"All of them except for Michigan State."
Has Penn State offered?
"No they haven't."
What are they telling you?
"I'm just talking to them now. I think a big thing might have been me coming down here today and performing. I came to (football) camp for two years so I've worked with the coaching staff. I'm pretty sure they like me. I think they just wanted to see me come out here and work out today against some of the other competition to see how my skills have progressed. I'm pretty confident with how that's going to go."
What's your interest level in Penn State?
"It's basically wide open just like everybody else. I've been doing my research on them. Before everything picked up for me there was a time that if Penn State had been the first or second school to offer me I probably would have orally committed at that time. It's wide open to everyone right now. They're pretty much equal. It's a level playing field right now. Whoever shows the most interest in me I guess and whoever has the best fit for me as far as me coming in getting my education and me playing for a football school and a coaching staff, that's where I think I'll be at."
When you do you plan on making a decision?
"I'm saying around Christmas."
