Clayton Chooses Florida State

Thomas Clayton, the super running back from Virginia, committed to Florida State on Monday. He chose the Seminoles over North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State and others.

Name: Thomas Clayton
Position: RB
Height: 5'11 ½"
Weight: 199 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.32 seconds
School: Mount Vernon High, Alexandria, Virginia

"Yes, I just committed earlier today (Monday)," Thomas said.

North Carolina came in second.

"It was between those 2 for about a month.  To be honest with you, the visits were overall the same, but Florida State just had more to it.  It had that extra spice.  It just felt like a missing piece to my puzzle that fit it just right.

"[Florida State running back Eric] Shelton just left.  Honestly, I don't think him being there would've made much difference in my decision anyway, but that helped out."

Thomas also took official visits to Penn State and Notre Dame.

"It was kind of wild, because the day before O'Leary got fired, he was at my house that night.  His visit with me was good, but it's just unfortunate that he got let go."

Thomas liked Penn State early in the recruiting process.

"I think the football situation there was good for me.  I like Joe Paterno and the coaching staff there.  But, I just didn't think the atmosphere was going to fit me best.

"I was sold on Penn State to begin with, just the situation alone.  But once I started checking out other schools, I realized that there were other good situations out there."
