Zach helped his team to a 9-3 record this season. He had a good year at the fullback position, rushing for 1,239 yards and 17 touchdowns on 247 carries.
"I mostly played fullback," Zach said. "I played inside linebacker too. I didn't start at linebacker this year because one of our starting offensive weapons went down before the season started. He was out for the season, so I had to carry the load on offense and didn't get to play a lot on defense. Otherwise, I would've started both ways."
Zach's specialty was getting a few tough yards when needed.
"Probably 95 percent of the time, I picked up the first down or touchdown on short yardage situations. I do have the speed to break outside too. I had a lot of long runs from 30 to 40 yards out.
"I actually like offense better. A lot of guys are recruiting me as an athlete, a guy who could play fullback or inside linebacker in college. Some are even saying tight end or defensive end."
Zach does not have any offers at this time and has not set up any official visits. He's is being actively recruited by several schools, including Penn State.
"I'm being recruited by New Hampshire, Villanova, Delaware, Rhode Island and some others. Penn State is the main 1A school that is recruiting me the hardest.
"I've been to Syracuse unofficially, to Penn State a couple of times, and to Maryland and West Virginia. I went up to camp at Penn State this year. They also gave me tickets for the home games, so I went up for a couple of games. I went to the Miami and Ohio State games."
Zach participated at both the running back and inside linebacker positions while at the Penn State camp this summer. That was the only camp he attended this year.
"I was supposed to go to the Syracuse camp, but I pulled my hamstring so I dropped out."
Penn State coach Ron Vanderlinden is recruiting Zach.
"He's on the road a lot lately, but I just talked to him. He told me to make sure my visits weren't booked up. He calls at least once a week, if not more.
"I gave him the film from this season and he hasn't had a chance to look at it yet. He's going to look at it this week because it's kind of a dead period for recruiting.
"He's their linebacker coach, that's where he likes me. He'd like me to come up and play inside linebacker."
Does Zach have a favorite?
"Penn State. My whole family, we're all Penn State fans, especially my grandfather. He's a big Paterno fan."
