Name: Jason Alford
Position: DT / C
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 255 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.8
School: Orange High, Orange, New Jersey

Jason had a terrific year for Orange High.

"I had 105 tackles and 10 sacks," Jason said.  "We finished 8-4.  We lost in the playoffs to West Essex."

Jason has already taken official visits to Virginia (10/19), Miami (12/7) and Syracuse (12/14).  He and his grandmother will be going to Penn State next weekend (1/11) for an official visit.  She has not been on any other official visits with Jason.  He also has an official visit scheduled for Rutgers on January 18, but is not sure whether or not he will take that visit.

His favorite teams are still Penn State and Miami.

Is there a chance he could commit to Penn State next weekend?

"I'm not really sure yet."

Coach Hargraves is recruiting Jason for the Miami Hurricanes.  Jason enjoyed his visit to Miami.

"I liked the team atmosphere and the weather.  It was real cool down there.  Miami's campus is nice.  It's like 10 minutes away from the city and everything."

Miami is recruiting him as a defensive tackle.

"They said I'd have to sit for at least a year."

According to Jason, Penn State is recruiting him as a defensive end.

"I've been going to their football camps since I was a freshman.  So, I know the coaching staff.  I like that.  My freshman year, the whole team went.  My sophomore year, it was a couple of us.  My junior year, it was the whole team and then my senior year, it was just me."

"I know my position coach (Larry Johnson).  I know the running back coach (Fran Ganter) pretty well, and the linebacker coach (Ron Vanderlinden).  I just think they're down to earth and pretty nice people."

Penn State Assistant Head Coach Fran Ganter is recruiting Jason.

"They said they need defensive players at my position."

Will distance to a prospective school factor into Jason's decision making process?

"Not really, I don't think."

Which type of campus environment appeals most to Jason, Penn State's or Miami's?

"I'm not really sure yet.  I don't really know yet."

What things are important to Jason in deciding which college to attend?

"Early playing time is important, graduation rate, team atmosphere, how does the team get along with each other, and the surrounding area of the campus."

Did he get to meet any of the Penn State players yet?

"No, not yet."

He will get a chance to do that next weekend during his official visit to State College.
