Penn State Welcomes Willie

The sign has been up for a while now, "Playmakers wanted". One player who could potentially answer the call was in State College this weekend. Connecticut star Willie Harriott made use of his team's bye-week to take an official visit to Penn State. The soft-spoken star took some time to share some highlights with

Hamden (Conn.) Hyde Leadership cornerback/wide receiver Willie Harriott (5-8, 175, 4.4) took his first official visit to Penn State over the weekend.

"We had a bye-week, so I decided to use the opportunity to take an official to visit Penn State," Harriott said.

Harriott was hosted during his visit by freshmen Spencer Ridenhour.

"He was nice, I had a fun time. Everyone was real nice the whole time I was there."

Harriott was quick to point out the game day atmosphere definitely left an impression on him.

"It was crazy there were so many people," Harriott said "I got to ride the bus with the players to the game, all those people were cheering."

As with other prep stars who have taken in games at Penn State, Harriott was amazed by the way the community supports the team and pays attention to recruiting.

"People were coming up to me and saying, 'Hi, Willie.' That was amazing, it definitely surprised me."

So what would Harriott consider the highlight of his journey?

"The food was nice, everywhere we ate the food was real good."

With all of the rumors circulating about "The Lion King" doing his best to recruit others to Nittany land, has Harriott spoken to Justin King? "No, I haven't," Harriott said "His situation is his own, in the end everyone has to do what's best for them."

While Harriott was impressed by his visit, don't expect a decision anytime soon.

"I'm looking at closer to signing day," Harriott said. "Penn State is in my top five, but I want to finish up my high school career before I focus on recruiting."

Hyde Leadership is currently (9-0) on the season, they have secured the top seed in the Connecticut Class S playoffs. Hyde will play its regular season finale Wednesday against North Branford.
