DC Standout to Visit PSU

Penn State may be back in the game for Washington (DC) wide receiver James McDonald. Once a near certain lock to attend Notre Dame, McDonald has been forced to seek other options due to the dismissal of Tyrone Willingham. The Nittany Lions could be the beneficiaries, after a rather strange turn of events.

Name: James McDonald
Position: WR
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 185 pounds
40-Yard dash: 4.6 seconds
School: Dunbar HS, Washington, DC

A while back Penn State appeared to be a shoe-in to receive a visit from Washington (D.C.) Dunbar three –star wide receiver James McDonald (6-2, 185, 4.55). Then McDonald announced that his coach would only allow him to take three official visits, he decided on Kansas, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame. So much for shoe-ins, right?

Pittsburgh received commitments from three wide receivers, cross them off the list. Notre Dame fires Tyrone Willingham; there goes the Fighting Irish. Enter Penn State, a school that if McDonald were permitted to take all five visits would've likely received one anyway.

Notre Dame may not be totally out of the picture, especially if they do as is suspected and hire Utah head coach Urban Meyer to replace Willingham.

"I love the Utah offense, if coach Meyer goes to Notre Dame then I'll be interested again," said McDonald "Pittsburgh told me they are done recruiting wide receivers, so I decided to visit Penn State instead. I wanted to visit them anyway so it all worked out for the best."

McDonald will officially visit Kansas this weekend, before venturing to State College next weekend. If Notre Dame stumbles on their job search the Nittany Lions may find themselves in the position to nab a very good wide receiver.

"Right now, I'm just going to take these visits and see how everything unfolds."
