Michigan LB To Visit This Weekend

He has offers from several teams including both Penn State and Michigan. The linebacker prospect will be taking an official visit to State College this weekend. The Nittany Lions are one of his favorites.

Name: Brian Thompson
Position: LB / TE / WR / P / K
Height: 6'2 1/2"
Weight: 216 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.62
School: Nouvel Catholic Central High School, Saginaw, Michigan

According to Nouvel head coach Mark Boyd, Brian Thompson has offers from 5 MAC schools, Pitt, Penn State and Michigan.

All of those schools are recruiting Brian as a linebacker.

"He was also a heck of a receiver for us," Coach Boyd said.  "He is the leading receiver in school history.  We played him at tight end, but then we'd split him out to get him some one-on-one matchups.  He's got the speed, at least at the high school level, to do that.

"He was our leading receiver and leading tackler.  He also led us in touchdowns.  He led us in just about every category there was.  He punted and kicked for us too.  He's a heck of an athlete.  For a school of our size, we don't get them like this very often.

"He is both the season and career receiving yards record holder [for the school].

"He had 72 catches for 968 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He had over 120 tackles.  He had a bunch of sacks, I would guess at least double digit sacks, maybe 14."

Brian went to a camp at Michigan this summer.

He has already taken 3 official visits.

"He's been to Pitt, Toledo and Michigan."

Brian will be taking an official visit to Penn State this weekend.

"I think he's narrowed it down to Penn State and Michigan, so this will be a big visit for him.

"I'd say Penn State probably offered in early December and then Michigan maybe closer to mid-December.

"Notre Dame was calling him last night.  He had a tentative visit set up to Notre Dame for this weekend before Coach Willingham was hired.  Then, we kind of didn't hear anything, and then they (Coach Mattison) were calling him last night.  I don't know the results of that call.  Notre Dame has not offered.

"His number one strength is the fact that he's always going.  His motor is always on.  He loves to play the game.  He's got a real passion for it.  The fact that his older brother played 5 years in the Big 10 I think has helped guide him as to what he needs to get done to be able to compete at that level.  I think he's got the toughness and the athleticism to be able to be a factor at that level.  He competes every single play.  He wants to make every tackle, and with a little bit of authority.

"His older brother, Shawn Thompson, just graduated this year.  He was a co-captain at Michigan this year.  He played tight end.

"Shawn would like him to go to Michigan, but in some ways, I think Brian might like to go somewhere else just to do his own thing.

"Brian's a little bit more athletic than Shawn is."
