PSU Still Evaluating Kickers

Penn State has already secured a verbal pledge from arguably the top high school kicker in Pennsylvania. Apparently, Joe Paterno and his staff may be seeking more options. There's been talk that Paterno would like Gloucester Catholic (NJ) kicker Merf Trout to come to State College for an official visit. Now Paterno is talking to another (NJ) kicker.

Westville (N.J) West Deptford kicker Jake Brownell, 5-10 and 190 pounds, took an official visit to Temple over the weekend. Brownell came away very impressed with what the Owls had to offer.

"I had a great time at Temple, the players, the staff everything was real nice," Brownell said. "Temple is definitely at the top of the leader board, I would say them and Navy right now."

Mike Mendenhall hosted Brownell; the two have a history as high school rivals.

"Mike played at Paulsboro, and they are our main rivalry," Brownell said. "It was fun it gave us lot's to talk about."

Brownell is scheduled to visit the Naval Academy (1/7), and Northwestern (1/14). Two schools have really begun recruiting Brownell hard as of late Penn State and Delaware.

Penn State has already secured a verbal from Neshaminy (Pa.) kicker Kevin Kelly. According to Brownell, Penn State may take two kickers this year.

"They came to the school for film, Coach Paterno told me that they may take two kickers," Brownell said. "I guess Kelly struggled in the playoffs or something so they want to possibly sign two of us."

What is Brownell's interest level in the Nittany Lions?

"I would definitely listen to what they have to say."
