Its common knowledge by now that five-star cornerback Justin King has been instrumental to the recruiting efforts of Penn State. King helped lure Lydell Sargeant and Sean Lee to Happy Valley in the weeks after his Nov. 15 commitment. Now the Nittany Lions have landed Derrick Williams, thanks in large part to Mr. King.
Scout.com caught up with King today to get his take on the commitment of Derrick Williams.
BL: Did you watch the Derrick Williams press conference?
JK: No, I was working out. Most of the other guys on the team watched it, though.
BL: How long ago did you truly know Williams was coming to Penn State?
JK: He kept me on my toes, I kept trying to find out but he never said 100 percent he was going to PSU until today.
BL: How influential is it on other recruits to see two five-star recruits going to Penn State?
JK: I think it will make a big difference, especially with the kids who are on the bubble.
BL: When did the friendship between you and Derrick begin?
JK: We met at the (Penn State) Nike Camp last year, but really since this summer weve been pretty close.
BL: So who else is in the fold for the Nittany Lions?
JK: We may have a few more surprises soon.
BL: So what position should we be looking at for the next few Penn State verbals?
JK: Maybe a few linebackers or safety type guys.
BL: When should we expect more Penn State commitments?
JK: There may be one tomorrow.
BL: Do you expect the Derek Williams verbal to give you guys a lot of momentum to finish up strong?
JK: I think it will attract some people, and some more big-time kid will jump on board.
BL: How soon should fans expect to see an impact from this years class?
JK: Hopefully next season.
BL: Are you definitely playing in the U.S. Army All American Bowl in Texas next month?
JK: Yes, I am all cleared to play in the game.
BL: Thanks for your time Justin, You have a safe and happy holiday and well see you in Texas.
JK: Same to you, and I will definitely see you in Texas.
