As if the task of facing No. 1 Illinois on the road is not enough, Penn State will have to do it without starting shooting guard Marlon Smith. The sophomore will miss Wednesday night's game due to an unspecified illness, the same problem that caused his to skip Saturday's road loss at Minnesota.
Penn State coach Ed DeChellis said Smiths family requested that the athletic department keep the details of his illness private. Smith became ill at practice last Friday. He was not at the gym when the Nittany Lions practiced Monday afternoon.
Smith is averaging 11.8 points per game.
