Shaw Selects PSU Over MSU

RB/LB Tim Shaw of Livonia, Michigan, shocked many when he chose the Nittany Lions over the home state Spartans this past Monday.

Name: Tim Shaw
Position: LB / RB
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 220 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.44 (Michigan Nike camp), 4.61 (Michigan camp - electronic), 4.43 (PSU camp)
School: Clarenceville High in Livonia, Michigan

Tim finished up his career as the Michigan state record holder for both career touchdowns and rushing yardage.  He also owns the state single season touchdown record.

Deciding which college to attend seemed to be the only obstacle with which Tim struggled.  Tim wrestled with his decision for a while before deciding to play for Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions.

"Late [Sunday] night, I got together with my coach," Tim said.  "It was down to Michigan State and Penn State.  I just wasn't sure. We weighed everything."

What made Tim choose Penn State over Michigan State?

"It was just the combination of everything.  Overall, I just thought Penn State was a better fit for me."

For a while, it was uncertain as to whether Tim would begin his college career on offense or defense.

"I'm going to start out at tailback.  Then, if that doesn't work out, I'd move to linebacker."

Tim plans to take advantage of the opportunity at Penn State for early playing time.

"I'm definitely not looking to redshirt, and I don't think it's going to happen."
