Recruiting Profile: Jared Odrick

<P>As more names begin to filter out from Penn State&#146;s first junior day, so do the first batch of offers. One offer went out to a mammoth defensive end/offensive lineman from Lebanon, Pa. Penn State is one of five schools that have sent out early offers to Jared Odrick.

Odrick, 6-foot-6 and 285 pounds, has received written offers from Penn State, Virginia, Iowa, Connecticut, and Maryland. Odrick attended junior day programs at Penn State a few weeks ago and at Virginia (Feb. 19).

“I really liked the campus, I really like Coach [Larry] Johnson. I’ve been to Penn State a few times.” Odrick said.

“I really liked Virginia, they have a real family atmosphere down there,” he added. “I just felt really comfortable there. They want me to play defensive end and I like that.”

Odrick began receiving offers midway into his junior season. Iowa and Connecticut were his first two and he remembers them well.

“I sent my first tape to Iowa and they offered,” Odrick said “Connecticut offered shortly after the first few games of last season.”

Basketball has always given Odrick an edge. He developed tremendous footwork from his years on the hardwood. This season Odrick gave up basketball in order to concentrate on football. It turns out it has bothered the big man.

“I’m playing next season, I miss it,” Odrick said.

Because Odrick is blessed with size, speed and athleticism, he has his choice of schools lining up for his services. Besides the written offers, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Michigan, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Michigan State, Indiana, Notre Dame, Miami and Vanderbilt are all showing interest.

“I’ve been to games at Maryland, Virginia, Penn State and Pittsburgh,” Odrick said. “I’m hoping to go on a Midwest tour this year and visit Michigan, Iowa, Notre Dame, and possibly Michigan State and Indiana. I might do a southern trip as well to visit Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and maybe Miami.”

Last season at offensive tackle, Odrick did not allow a sack. On defense he registered 90 tackles, and nine sacks. He earned second-team Associated Press All-State honors. As a sophomore, he earned third-team All-State honors. Odrick has been selected as a first-team All-County selection three consecutive years.

Odrick is planning on attending the Nike Combine at Penn State, The Elite College Combine at the Meadowlands and The Adidas Elite Combine in Pittsburgh.

Early favorites for Odrick include Virginia, Penn State, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma, Connecticut, and West Virginia.
