Recruiting Profile: Aaron Smith

Penn State recruited his uncle, Terry Smith, then his cousin, Justin King. Now it is Aaron Smith's turn. Aaron is next in a long line of great athletes. He is the quarterback of his uncle Terry Smith's Gateway High squad in Monroeville, Pa. Penn State is one of three teams that have offered the young athlete. Is he interested?

Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway quarterback Aaron Smith, 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, is an athlete. It is his athletic ability that is catching college coaches' eyes, and earning Smith scholarship offers.

"I have written offers from Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Maryland," Smith said. "I have verbal offers from Syracuse, Iowa, West Virginia, and Virginia."

Smith has been to events at all three of the offering schools. He shared some thoughts on each school.

Maryland: "I was at their junior day on Sunday, they had 140 players there. I liked the trip a lot. The stadium was nice, and I really liked the coaches."

Pittsburgh: "I liked Pittsburgh a lot; I've had the chance to visit there a few times."

Penn State: "They have real nice facilities at Penn State."

Smith has a few more junior day events planned for the month of March.

He will visit one ACC school and one SEC school.

"I'm going to Tennessee (3/12) and Virginia Tech (3/26)," Smith said.

Smith completed 55 of 110 attempts for 1,188 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He also ran 75 times for 510 yards and six touchdowns. He was named first-team WPIAL Quad-South West.

*** Report:***

Very smooth and fluid athlete, he got better as his confidence grew throughout the season. If he grows a few inches he could play QB in the right system, but will likely project as a DB/WR at the next level. Smith was hidden most of the season, as all-everything Justin King was the focal point of the Gateway offense.
