Herzlich Coming Around Again

Like most kids in eastern Pennsylvania, Mark Herzlich doesn't hesitate when talking about his interest in the Penn State football program. The Nittany Lions were his favorite team growing up, and now he hopes for an offer. Herzlich will attend the annual Blue-White Game Saturday.

If football doesn't pan out, there's always lacrosse for Berwyn. Pa., Conestoga defensive end Mark Herzlich, 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. He is a D-I prospect in both sports.

"I'm getting a lot of interest for football and a few schools looking at me for lacrosse. North Carolina is looking at me for each sport," Herzlich said.

Not too worry, Herzlich should have no problem securing a football scholarship. In 2004, he tallied 145 tackles, three interceptions, and three sacks. He was named first-team All-League, All-Main Line and All-County (Chester).

Herzlich has taken several unofficial visits this spring to Penn State, Virginia, Boston College, Duke and North Carolina.

Penn State: "I went to a junior day there and I like it a lot. The facilities are great. I think Penn State would be a good fit for me. They were my childhood favorite. I'm going to their spring game this weekend."

Virginia: "I like it, I liked the atmosphere and the nice weather."

Boston College: "I liked it at Boston College. I've been there three or four times now. I was there two weeks ago; they're putting a new addition on their stadium."

Duke: "It's smaller, but they have the best facilities I've seen. Their athletic training and practice facilities are really nice."

North Carolina: "I saw it briefly; it was my second trip there. The weather was nice; they have a real nice stadium. I went on a recruiting trip for Lacrosse there."

Herzlich will attend the Elite College Combine at the Meadowlands May 4.
