Conn. DL Gears Up For Visit

<P>Last season, Penn State quietly went into the Nutmeg State and signed Chris Baker. Could the Nittany Lions pull off another heist in Connecticut this year? There&#146;s a very good chance Penn State will make a play for Baker&#146;s former teammate and linemate.

Windsor High defensive tackle Damik Scafe, 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds, will venture to State College this weekend for a junior day and a combine at Penn State. If Joe Paterno can’t sway Scafe, perhaps Baker will.

“Yeah, he works on me a little bit,” chuckled Scafe.

Scafe currently has a scholarship offer from Boston College, but a number of teams have shown interest, including: Iowa, Connecticut, Syracuse, Indiana, Miami, Virginia, Maryland and of course Penn State.

In 2004, Scafe earned first team All-League and All-Conference honors after registering 79 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

Scafe has taken a number of unofficial visits, to Boston College, Miami, Virginia, and Connecticut.

Boston College: “It was a good trip. I liked the campus and the coaches were great.”

Miami: “It was really nice; I liked how they organized their junior day so each of us got to speak with a coach. I also met three NFL players which was nice.”

Virginia: “It was nice but there were too many kids there. They have a real nice campus.”

Connecticut: “It’s nice and it’s my hometown school. The coaches are great.” will have more on Scafe’s venture to Happy Valley upon his return.
