Perez Talks About PSU

Penn State played host to a number of recruits at its Blue-White Game last month, and one of the top talents was Camden (N.J.) Woodrow Wilson safety Antwine Perez, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. Perez and teammate Andrey Baskin took in the rain-shortened contest. We caught up with Perez at the recent Elite College Combine to hear his thoughts on Penn State and recruiting in general.

Bob Lichtenfels: You and teammate Andrey Baskin took a recent unofficial to Penn State for the spring game, how did that go?

Antwine Perez: I think it’s a good place to be right now. They seem to be headed in the right direction.

BL: Is it safe to say it went better then expected?

AP: It was definitely more than I expected.

BL: What made you choose to visit Penn State?

AP: I plan on graduating early so I wanted to talk to Justin King and Derrick Williams about it. Elijah Robinson is there from our school so that is the main reason I went there.

BL: Let me guess, Justin was recruiting you?

AP: Those guy’s were telling me about their experience at Penn State, and how it’s gone for them.

BL: How many offers do you have now?

AP: I have 42 offers.

BL: Who are the most recent schools to have offered?

AP: LSU, South Carolina, Michigan and Illinois.

BL: Have any of your offers taken you by surprise?

AP: I would say USC because it came so early, I was one of the first players that they offered.

BL: I know you play quarterback and safety, which do you prefer?

AP: I have about six-eight offers at quarterback. I like free safety though.

BL: What teams are you currently looking at?

AP: I don’t really have any favorites. By the end of the month I should have a top eight. In June I hope to have a top five. Right now, though I’d say USC, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.

BL: What are your plans for the summer?

AP: I’m going to camp at USC and then just focus on my team.
