Kickoff Times Announced

Penn State's 2005 season will open with a trio of non-conference tilts, and all of them will be day games at Beaver Stadium.

The Nittany Lions open the campaign September 3, hosting South Florida at 3:30 p.m. The contest will be televised by ESPN Plus, as well as nationally on ESPNU. The ESPN Plus affiliates are to be announced. The Lions and Bulls will be meeting for the first time. The contest will be South Florida's first as a member of the Big East Conference.

Penn State will welcome an old rival and another new Big East school when Cincinnati travels to Beaver Stadium for a noon contest on Sept. 10. ESPN Plus will televise the game, with the affiliates to be announced. The Nittany Lions lead the series with the Bearcats, 7-1, with the last meeting coming in 1992, a 24-20 Penn State win in the Queen City. Cincinnati last played in Happy Valley in 1991.

Penn State was originally scheduled to play at Alabama on Sept. 10, but the Crimson Tide asked that the two-game series be postponed until 2013-14.

The Nittany Lions conclude non-conference play on Sept. 17, hosting Central Michigan for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. The first meeting between the schools will be webcast on ESPN360, with more details available as the season approaches. The game will not be televised. The three new kick times brings the total of known kickoff times to five for the upcoming season. Previously announced was the October 8 home clash with Ohio State, which will begin at either 7:00 p.m. (ESPN2) or 7:45 (ESPN), and the Oct. 22 game at Illinois, which will kick at 7:00 ET and air on ESPN2.

The Nittany Lions have appeared on television 126 of their last 128 games. All of Penn State's games during the 2004 season were televised.

Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten Conference.
