Scott Shaping Up

For Austin Scott, bigger definitely was not better. The tailback arrived at Penn State in 2003 weighing right around 205 pounds, but by the 2004 campaign, he had bulked up to 220. The idea was to add muscle for the brutal Big Ten battles. But it only served to slow him.

In fact, Scott's career with the Penn State football program has not accelerated at the pace he hoped for when he signed with the Lions following an incredible senior season at Parkland High near Allentown, Pa. Through two seasons, he has 748 total rushing yards, which would have been a two-game total during his prep days.

So following the 2004 campaign, Scott rededicated himself to a successful lifestyle, dropping the extra weight and taking a more serious approach to his classwork. Despite missing most of spring practice with a broken ankle, he kept the weight off, and at Penn State football Media Day checked in at 205 again.
