USF GAME: Report Card

FOS offers its postgame grades for the Nittany Lions' season-opening 23-13 win over South Florida.

OVERALL: OK, so it wasn't exactly an explosive opening-game showing. But after the past few years, a win is a win.
Grade: C

OFFENSE: Lions won't beat many opponents making that many mistakes.
Grade: D+

DEFENSE: Solid all-around effort, especially given the number of opportunities the PSU offense provided for South Florida.
Grade: B

SPECIAL TEAMS: Rookie K Kevin Kelly was definitely a bright spot.
Grade: B+

COACHING: Once again, the suspect effort by the offense counterbalances a good job by the defense.
Grade: C-

INTANGIBLES: Despite many mistakes, you never got the sense the Lions were in trouble.
Grade:
B

OTHER GUYS: Bulls could have easily rolled over but did not.
Grade: C-

OFFICIALS: Roughing the punter personal foul seemed rough to us. Other than that, a good game.
Grade: B

CROWD: Less than 100,000 (99,235) for the opener? Come on.
Grade: C-
