Jason Evans will begin his senior year as a 4-year starter at running back and a 3-year starter at corner back. While Jason excels on both sides of the ball, most college coaching staffs envision him playing in the offensive backfield.
"I had 1,350 yards rushing, 10.7 yards per carry, and 15 touchdowns," Jason said. "On defense, I had 40 tackles and 4 interceptions.
"I was All-Southeast, Pre-Season All-American and All-County.
"I'm physical on offense and defense. I get up-field, north and south. It's hard for anybody to get close to me because I use my hands real well. I like to stiff-arm people. I can get up field, make one move and make them miss."
Jason's accomplishments have obviously not gone unnoticed.
"I have a little bit over 20 offers, around 25. I have offers from Texas A&M, Stanford, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Wake Forest, Boston College, Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, BYU, West Virginia and Ohio State. Michigan, Colorado and USC say they'll offer along with Oklahoma, UCLA and Arizona State. That's all I can name right now."
Jason has been quite busy visiting prospective schools.
"So far, I've been to Texas A&M, Boston College and Stanford. I just went to Northwestern this weekend to see my brother play in the spring game. I was at Maryland and North Carolina too. Also, I was at South Carolina for their junior day. That's where Tom Lemming took his All-American pictures.
"They're great schools. All of them are acknowledged as a power in their leagues and most of them have great academics. It would be great to play for any of them.
"I might hit Penn State this summer for an unofficial visit. I might make one to Michigan also."
Jason is definitely interested in the Nittany Lions.
"They have Joe Paterno. He's a great coach and they put running backs in the league (NFL), it's a fact. Also, it's a great school."
Evans claims to have no early favorites.
"I don't think I could name a top 5 right now. I'm really open."
When does he plan to have a final decision made?
"I'll make an early decision, by the summer."
Jason's brother is a redshirt junior at Northwestern.
"My mom and dad go to all the home games (fly) and my mom tries to go to the
Would he like to play with his brother?
"Maybe," Jason replied. "He's telling me to make my own decision and not let anyone influence me."
According to Jason, he has several teammates that are Division I prospects. Two of them are Paul Oliver (WR/CB – "He's probably one of the top corner prospects in the south and maybe the nation. He has offers from Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Maryland, Duke, he's got a lot of offers.") and Tim Cesa (LB/TE – "He's being recruited as a linebacker. Maryland and Boston College have offered.)
Have the teammates discussed attending the same school?
"We've talked about Texas, that's pretty much it. He (Paul) wants to stay down south and the rest of us are open to anything."
Jason has moved around quite a bit.
"I was born in Ohio, moved up to Michigan, from there we moved to West Virginia and then we moved here. We've been here 6 years, going on 7."
Jason is a very good student. He is enjoying the recruiting process so far.
"I love it right now, it's great."
