Is Devlin Reconsidering?

On his weekly call-in show last Thursday, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno mentioned the staff was recruiting another quarterback for its current class of incoming freshman. Unable to discuss the specific prospect's name as per NCAA regulations, Paterno stated that the quarterback was a Pennsylvania prospect with family ties to Penn State.

Pat Devlin, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound, four-star quarterback from Downingtown Easy High in Exton, Pa., fits the profile. He has an offer from Penn State, both his mother and father both attended Penn State, and he resides in the Keystone state.

Accordingly, Devlin said that in fact the Penn State staff routinely contacts him through the mail and phone. Despite the continued recruitment, Devlin reaffirmed without a shadow of a doubt that his recruitment is over and he will sign a letter of intent with Miami come signing day.

"I still get letters and stuff like that," Devlin said. "My recruitment is pretty much over. [Penn State assistant] Coach [Ron] Vanderlinden gives me a call every week or so. I think they haven't given up yet, but I don't really know what the word is."

When asked if he planned on scheduling any official visits between now and signing day, Devlin made it clear that the only official visit he plans to take is one to Miami.

"My official visit will be to Miami, but I haven't finalized it yet," Devlin said.

As to any ambiguity in his recruiting situation, Devlin made it clear as to where he will ultimately play college football.

"I am definitely going to Miami," Devlin said.
