Bowman Makes Up His Mind

With the recruiting season entering its final stages, more and more blue chip prospects are ready to announce their commitments. With that said, mark your calendars, as Navorro Bowman has picked a school and a date to announce his college choice.

Navorro Bowman, a 6-foot-1, 218-pound, four-star linebacker from Forestville, Md., will announce his college choice on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2 from the auditorium of Suitland High.

Bowman stated that he has in fact made a decision, but will announce it publicly next week.

The three schools on Bowman's final list are Ohio State, Penn State, and Virginia Tech.

With respect to the Buckeyes, Bowman said he grew up an Ohio State fan and finds the opportunities available there favorable. He took an official visit to Ohio State Oct. 15.

“Ohio State has more opportunity than the other two schools,” Bowman said. “I've been watching them my whole life. Since I was young, I've always said I wanted to be a Buckeye. I had fun on the visit.”

On Virginia Tech, Bowman said that he felt comfortable with the atmosphere, the players and the coaching staff. He took an official visit to Virginia Tech Nov. 4.

“For Virginia Tech, when I went down there, I felt like I was at home,” Bowman said. “The coaches and the players were great. It was nice to visit and I had fun.”

Concerning Penn State, Bowman said he has been impressed with the turnaround of the Nittany Lions and spoke of his good relationship with Derrick Williams and assistant coach Larry Johnson. He took an official visit to Penn State Sept. 3.

“Penn State, I gotta say, Derrick Williams brought that in my mind,” Bowman said. “He was the number one player in the country last year and [Penn State was] doing bad. He must have seen something in them. I put that in my mind and put them on my list. Me and Coach Johnson gel together. [Penn State] seem[s] like a great school to go to.”

Bowman elaborated more on the Nittany Lions, specifically on their upcoming BCS bowl appearance.

“My thought about Penn State is really great,” Bowman said. “They are coming back so tough and so hard from last year. They've been rolling with it and they're been doing a good job. I think really high on Penn State, and it's a positive for them.”

Bowman said he was recently in contact with Williams, as well as current Penn State commitment Aaron Maybin.

“I actually just talked to Derrick Williams about an hour and a half ago,” Bowman said at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. “He talked about the decision I'm about to make and he knows how I feel right now. He doesn't want to bother me too much. I also talked to Aaron Maybin last week. They've been keeping in contact with me and been by my side while I'm going through this.”
