MD LB Addresses Comments

The coveted linebacker from Maryland addresses recent comments he made following visits to both Penn State and Maryland.

Name: Wes Jefferson
Position: LB
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 231 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.71
Bench Press: 305 pounds
School: Gwynn Park High School, Brandywine, MD

Last week, an article surfaced in which Jefferson, during an interview with a reporter covering recruiting for Terrapin fans, made comments unfavorably comparing Penn State's spring practice to that of Maryland.  It appeared as though Penn State had fallen down on Jefferson's list of favorites and that Maryland was his number one team.

"I went to Penn State on March 23," Wes explained.  "That was the first practice that I saw.  They were a little bit rusty, I could tell, but it was their first practice.  It's just like when we first started conditioning again, working out, I was [rusty too].  I also saw Maryland's first practice.  I was comparing their first practices.  Maryland wasn't as rusty as Penn State."

Wes also attended spring games at both schools.

"When I saw them both at the end [of spring practice], they were together.  They were even then."

When LionNews last spoke with Wes, he listed his top 4 teams as Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State and Florida State.

"I'm more open now.  I don't think I have a top 4 any more."

Does Maryland have an edge over Penn State at this time?

"Oh no, I was just comparing the first practices that I saw."

Wes has been busy working out.  He has not been inundated with calls and visits from college coaches.

"Not that many coaches have called here, not yet."

Wes indicated that he has "a little less than 20 offers.".

Note: Florida State, previously one of his top 4 teams, has not yet offered.
