Quarless Picks Penn State

Long Island standout TE/DE selects the Nittany Lions over Big Ten rival Michigan. Quarless is the 17th athlete to declare for Penn State's Class of 2006.

Andrew Quarless is a Nittany Lion. Finally.

Quarless, the 6-foot-4, 225 pound four-star tight end prospect from Uniondale High in Uniondale, N.Y., announced his commitment to Penn State today at a press conference at the school Friday. After months of rumblings that he was on the verge of committing to the Nittany Lions, Quarless pulled the trigger and made it official this afternoon.

Much like the recent commitments of A.J. Wallace and Maurice Evans to Penn State, Quarless' choice of the Nittany Lions seemed to be one of the worst-kept secrets in college football recruiting. Quarless took two official visits, one to Penn State and the other to Michigan, but all the while seemed to highly favor Penn State over any other school.

Quarless gained notoriety on the message boards and with college coaches with a highlight video he published on the internet with the help from his uncle. By the video alone, Quarless garnered offers from some of the nation's elite college football powerhouses, including Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, and Penn State.

Quarless marks the Nittany Lions' 17th commitment to date.
