Coaches: Ed DeChellis is 25-47 in three seasons at Penn State and 130-140 in 10 seasons overall. Matt Painter is 7-8 in his first year after taking over for Gene Keady and 32-13 in two seasons overall.

Series: Purdue leads 16-7.

Last Meeting: The Boilermakers trounced the Lions 77-50 in West Lafayette Feb. 9, 2005.

Notes: This game features the three players in the mix for Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors — Cornley, and Purdue rookie guards Korey Spates (10.9 ppg) and Chris Lutz (10.7 ppg). Spates and Lutz will both come off the bench today. … Boilermaker swingman Nate Minnoy also ranked among the league's best freshmen before tearing an ACL in the 12th game of the season. … Look out for Boilermaker reserve forward Marcus White, a transfer from UConn who just became eligible this semester. The 6-8, 215-pounder had 17 points in Purdue's 72-55 win over Minnesota Saturday. … Penn State is by far the Big Ten's youngest team. Underclassmen are accounting for 58 percent of the team scoring, 53 percent of the rebounds and 53 percent of the steals.

FOS prediction: Penn State 74, Purdue 71.

Comment: With Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan and Illinois coming up, the Nittany Lions better get while the gettin' is good.
