Winds of Change for WR Hazelton?

Vidal Hazelton, the nation's No. 1 wide receiver according to, could have a serious impact in the team recruiting rankings on signing day. Why is that? Because Hazelton may not be a done deal to USC after all.

Hazelton committed to the Trojans in late December. Like many recruit who select a school over 3,000 miles away from home, the New York native is having second thoughts. Vidal's father, Dexter Hazelton, gave us an update on his son's status heading into the home stretch.

“He's really having second thoughts about this distance thing,” Dexter Hazelton said. “He's called me three times just today about it. This whole Pat Devlin situation has made things interesting. I would expect Vidal to be giving Devlin a call tonight to see what is going on. That was his main concern about Penn State, was at quarterback. We knew at USC they have Mark Sanchez waiting in the wings.”

Penn State has been at or near the top of Dexter's list from the get-go.

“They have handled the recruiting process as good, if not better, than any other school,” he said. “I trust that they would do what's best for my son. I'm thinking about going down there this week, maybe by myself to check out everything at Penn State.”

As we mentioned on on Sunday nigh, we predict this one will come down to the wire. Dexter feels the same way.

“It will likely come down to signing day,” he said. “Pete Carroll is scheduled to come in for an in-home visit, I think he senses something may be happening here. Like you said in your article, it's a hard thing for a 17-year-old kid to say no to a Pete Carroll or a Joe Paterno. I don't think people realize that.”
