Poz Up for Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year

It has been a heck of a year for junior linebacker Paul Posluszny, the Butkus Award, the Bednarik Award and consensus All-American honors. Now the Penn State captain is up for the Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year honor, but he is facing some pretty "super" competition this time around. See who he is up against and cast your vote for him.

This year's Dapper Dan Dinner and Sports Auction already has a nittany Lion flavor to it with Joe Paterno being honored with the organzation's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Now, two Nittany Lion standout athletes are up for the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year honors. The winners of these honors will be honored along with Paterno at the 70th annual Dapper Dan Dinner and Sports Auction on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Hilton Pittsburgh.

Paul Posluszny

Called Linebacker U.'s "best linebacker ever" by former Lion legend Jack Ham, Paul Poslsuzny has already made a lasting impact on Penn State. The 2005 season earned him the Butkus and Bednarik Awards and he was also named a consensus first-team All-American. A graduate of Hopewell High School, Posluszny was also the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette high school player of the year.

Posluszny faces stiff competition for this honor, facing Steeler standouts Jerome Bettis and Hines Ward and their head coach Bill Cower.

Kaleena Walters

A Mt. Lebanon graduate, Walters just wrapped up a stellar career at PSU. The standout helped to lead Penn State volleyball to a 31-3 record and its third consecutive Big Ten title with a perfect 20-0 conference record. Walters was Big Ten defensive player of the year, first team All-Big Ten for the second time and an honorable mention All-American.

She too faces tough competition from the coach of Pitt's women's basketball team, as well as Olympian Jamie Silverstein.
