Offers Build for Austin

As expected with any recruit who is designated a five-star prospect this early by, Marvin Austin's scholarship offers list has grown to an almost unmanageable size. Austin took an unoffical visit to Penn State last season. Are the Nittany Lions among the schools who have offered?

“I have about 20-something [scholarship offers], but I can’t remember all of them off the top of my head,” said Austin. “I actually got one today. I got from Florida today. I got Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Maryland, UVa, Georgia, N.C. State, Illinois — just to name a few.”

With his list of options continuing to grow, Austin doesn’t plan on establishing a top 10 list of favorites until the end of the summer.

“I can’t really say right now, I don’t really have a top 10 or a top 5 right now,” said Austin. “Probably by the end of the summer I’ll have all that situated.”

This summer Austin plans to use the college camping circuit to check out campuses and coaching staffs. So far, Florida State, Penn State and Virginia are the only set destinations.

For the time being, Austin will gather what he can from various junior days.

“I went to Maryland’s junior day and I might go to N.C. State’s junior day this weekend, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it,” said Austin. “Hopefully everything works out and I’ll be able to go.

“Two weeks ago [I went to Maryland’s junior day]. It was nice. It was real fun up there, I liked the atmosphere, they got a great fan base, and everything went well.”

Austin, a 6-foot-3 300-pound defensive tackle from Washington (D.C.) Coolidge, recorded 76 tackles, eight sacks, four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries during a solid junior campaign.
