PA LB Accruing Offers

Palmyra High School LB/RB Joe Brockington has received several scholarship offers already. What is Penn State's interest in the aggressive athlete?

Name: Joe Brockington
Position: LB/RB
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 215 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.56 at Nike Camp
Bench Press: 20 reps of 185 pounds
School: Palmyra Area SHS, Palmyra, PA

Joe is one of the top linebackers in the state of PA.  He finished last season with 65 tackles and 3 sacks.  He primarily played running back, where he gained 1,046 yards and 9 touchdowns.  He also had 51 pancake blocks as a lead blocker.

"I was 1st Team All-Conference and All-County on offense and defense," Joe said.

Joe is being recruited to play both RB and LB, but most schools would like to see him playing LB.

"Vandy is the only one that wants me to play fullback.  I was talking to the Michigan coach, and if I would play there, they want me to play Will (wsLB).  I'd rather play defense, but it really doesn't matter.

"Defensively, I'm more of a sideline to sideline type of guy.  Offensively, I'm more of a hard runner.  I don't really look to make moves and stuff, I'm more of a downhill runner."

At the recent Nike Camp at Penn State, Joe ran the 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.56 seconds.

"After this past football season, I started working with a trainer [to improve
my 40-time]."

Brockington already has written offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Boston College, Georgia Tech and UConn.  Purdue and Indiana have offered him verbally.

"There's noone at the top of my list now because I don't really know anything about
the colleges.

"I visited Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia this year.  I was also at Rutgers too."

Joe previously stated that he would like to attend college in the south.

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean that I'm not looking at any of the Pennsylvania schools.  I just prefer to go down south, but it doesn't really matter if I don't.  I'm not going to be upset if I don't go down south.  The weather is just always nice.  I'm not a big fan of the cold weather."

Have the Nittany Lions been in contact?

"Yeah, I talked to Penn State, but I think the whole out of state thing--,  I still talk to them, they still send me stuff.  I think my coach actually told them I wanted to leave the state.  If I was recruited there, I'm not saying I wouldn't go there because I want to go down south.  I would just prefer to go down south."

Joe listed South Carolina, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue as other teams showing interest.
