Special Report: Pa. D-1A Talent

For the past six years, Front Range, a mainstay of PSU's online community, has conducted the Annual Recruiting Survey, which breaks down the origins of football talent across the nation. Last week we reviewed the national breakdown, in this segment we look at the Class of 2006 D-1A talent for Pennsylvania.

Initially this report reviewed the national Class of 2006 talent, identifying the top states that produced Division IA talent this past year.

Now, we take a closer look at how Penn State's home turf breaks down, reviewing the Class of 2006 distributions for the Keystone State.

Here is a map of how the PIAA districts are split:

Here are the top districts for Pennsylvania this year:

1. District 7 (WPIAL): 28 recruits
2. District 1: 14 recruits
3. District 3: 13 recruits
4. District 12 (Philadelphia): 6 recruits

This year the eastern half of Pennsylvania surpassed the western half, with 37 total D-1A recruits from the eastern districts compared to 34 from the western districts. In the past the westenrn region has produced more D-1A talent on a fairly consistent basis.

With the lists of recruits we are seeing already for the 2007 recruiting season, it should be an interesting race for the top spot in recruiting circles for the Class of 2007.
