JUCO PF Claims PSU Offer

New York JUCO power foward claims an offer from Penn State and head coach Ed DeChellis, get an update on where his recruitment stands currently.

Keith "Boo" Richardson will take his first official visit this weekend along with one of his teammates at Coffeyville C.C. in Kansas.

According to Coffeyville Asst. Coach Ryan Hellenthal, the quick 5-7, 155 pound Richardson and athletic 6-7 power forward Anthony Slack will visit Illinois State from Apr. 6-8.

Hellenthal said that Richardson has been offered scholarships by Illinois State, Tulsa and Penn State. As of right now, the Illinois State visit is the only one on the docket for Richardson.

A dynamic floor general who excels in transition, Richardson averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game for the Red Ravens in 2005-2006. He shot 34 percent beyond the arc and 78 percent from the charity stripe.

After Coffeyville lost its opener a few weeks back at the NJCAA Tournament, Richardson rallied the Red Ravens to a seventh place finish. For his efforts, he was given the Bud Obee Award for most outstanding small player (6-1 and under) of the tournament.

"He's the best leader I've been around in my four years of coaching at the junior college level," Hellenthal said. "He has the ability to push guys to another level."

Should Richardson decide to schedule more trips after his Illinois State visit, we will keep you posted.
