Austin Discusses PSU Visit

At last year's combine at Akron, Ohio Marvin Austin had his coming out party. Now, Austin is widely regarded as the top defensive tackle prospect in the nation. Withmore than 30 offers already he talks about his recent trip to Happy Valley to see Penn State and meet with Larry Johnson and Joe Paterno.

Coolidge High defensive tackle Marvin Austin, arguably the nation's No. 1 defensive tackle took a recent unofficial visit to Penn State recently, and he came away very impressed. This was not his first trip to Happy Valley, taking in the Purdue game late last season.

"It was a nice experience," Austin said. "I had a lot of fun there. I was watching practice and saw some nice drills that they do with the defensive linemen. I met with some players after practice and had the chance to talk the Larry Johnson and Joe Paterno."

Austin has been linked to several schools including Penn State and Notre Dame. Austin currently holds more than 30 offers from the likes of Notre Dame, USC, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and countless others. He still maintains that there is no favorite.

"I'm interested in all 30 right now," he said. "I'll sit down with my coaches soon and start narrowing it down. There all good schools I have been to Penn State a few times and Notre Dame you have to look at. Coach (Charlie) Weis is getting it done. He is a very meticulous man. Arrelious Benn and Jimmy Clausen are looking at them, so I am interested."

The most recent schools to offer Austin are West Virginia, Michigan State, and Oregon. One school has surprised Austin by not offering.

"I'm surprised I haven't gotten an offer from Miami," Austin explained. "With the style defense they play and how I play it just seems to fit."
