Hidden Pa. Gem has Penn State Offer

One of the best aspects of being a recruiting analyst is when you find a player that nobody is talking about. Coatesville is home to such a player. No one has uttered a word about him, yet he is more than likely the best defensive lineman the state has to offer.

Derrick Morgan will be the first to tell you that his recruitment was helped by two things. One is the fact that he is pro-active and has sent his film out and the other is he played on the same team with one of the states most exciting backs in C.J. Gray.

"One of our coaches helped me and we sent out close to twenty tapes," Morgan said. "The response has been pretty positive so far. A lot of the schools came in to watch C.J (Gray) last year and they noticed me.'

Not that it's hard to notice an athletic 6-foot-4, 260-pound fullback/defensive end, but colleges have not missed as Morgan has received six early offers.

"I have offers from Penn State, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, and Vanderbilt," he said. "Northwestern and Florida have also shown interest. I was hoping to be recruited, but I didn't think it would take off like this."

Morgan recorded ten sacks last season, as he earned All-League and All-Area honors. He was chosen as the league's top defensive lineman. The Philadelphia Inquirer named him second team All-Southeastern PA. Morgan has been clocked in the 4.8-4.9 range in the 40 yard dash and he maintains a 3.77 GPA.

The talented defensive lineman has made two unofficial visits so far to Penn State and Syracuse.

Penn State: "I went to junior day there. It was a nice trip. The facilities are top of the line. I got to talk to a few of the players and the coaches. The coaches are real there."

Syracuse: "I went up to their spring game. It is more of an urban area then Penn State. The coaches are down to earth. Syracuse is a good academic school."

Morgan is nowhere near a decision this early in the process.

"I'm open. Right now, I just want to take a look at all the schools. I'm going to try and make a visit to Pittsburgh and West Virginia in the next couple of weeks," Morgan explained."
