Analysis of PSU Offers

With Penn State picking up the fourth member of their Class of 2007 and extending more offers recently, national recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg breaks down and assesses the skills of recent PSU pledge Jon Ditto and some prospects with PSU offers.

Jon Ditto

Jon Ditto is a good looking wide receiver prospect from Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway High School. You got to love his size at 6-foot-4 and 221 pounds or so. At that size he has good speed and strength. Ditto has soft hands and is very good in the air showing excellent body control.

He is also fearless going over the middle showing good concentration when knowing he's going to get punished by the secondary. Ditto also can get by you deep with his deceptive speed.

Overall, he looks to be like a very solid receiver prospect and one of the top prospects from the state of Pennsylvania. He could develop into an H-back or flex tight end.

Nick Sukay

Nick Sukay is a wide receiver/safety prospect from Greenburg (Pa.) Central Catholic High School. Sukay, 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, is truley good enough to play on either side of the ball at the next level. In addition he is also a special teams standout and a very good kick returner.

As a receiver he has good size and speed. He perhaps has better quickness than speed and is a yacker – he gets yards after the catch. Sukay has good concentration and hands and adjusts to the ball well. When he wants to be physical and run with power he will certainly do that. He'll go over the middle or get by you deep and you got to love his size. Sukay can also go up and get the ball.

Defensively, Sukay is a a rangy defensive back that supports the run very well and plays very smart in coverage. He can cover a lot of ground and makes a great break on the ball. With his size there is also a chance he could grow and develop into an outside linebacker at the next level.

What's the position for Sukay with the most upside? Me personally, I like him a tad more as a safety. He's smart, understands offenses and the passing game from playing receiver, supports the run, and plays with aggresiveness and shows very good athletic ability and range.

Robert Hughes

Hughes is a running back prospect from Chicago (Ill.) Hubbard. Hughesm 5-foot-11 and 227 pounds, is a north-south runner who shows great power. In fact, his style is soley based on strength and Hughes can certainly be a strong runner, especially between the tackles.

He can move a pile and is very dangerous when his shoulders are square (to the line of scrimmage) and he's moving down hill. Another impressive trait is his leg drive.

You think he's down and somehow he can break free from gang tacklers for a few extra yards. Hughes is tough to bring down one on one and has good speed for a 227 pound back.

Cedric Everson

Everson is a great athlete from Detroit (Mi.) Mumford High School. In fact, you should just call him playmaker because he makes big plays on offense, defense and on special teams. Everson, 6-foot and 175 pounds, is a cornerback prospect that just always finds himself around the ball. He has good size and speed and excellent quickness and athletic ability.

Everson is great in the air and has good body control, concentration and hands. He has good hips, change of direction and a quick burst and break on the ball. He supports the run well too.

Everson is certainly talented enough to play receiver and return kicks at the next level. He has good hands and is very dangerous with the ball because of his speed, quickness and elusiveness in the open field.
