"I'm kind of hoarse now," Joseph said to explain his raspy voice. "My voice is kind of gone. I've been having my summer workouts and I've been getting kind of pumped up and I lost my voice yesterday."
That type of intensity translates well to the field where last season Bryant tallied 94 tackles and approximately 10 sacks. His primary position is defensive tackle although this season he will play some at offensive tackle as well. He played tight-end during his sophomore year.
Several teams have extended scholarship offers, with more sure to follow.
"I believe I have about 12 or 13 offers. LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, OSU, Arkansas, Colorado and Penn State, those are all the ones I have on paper. I have a whole bunch of verbals like Iowa State, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Alabama, SMU, TCU, Houston, there's a bunch."
Although he does not yet know which schools he will visit, Joseph is planning to take several trips to help him make his decision.
"I went to LSU and Texas this year. I went to Texas A&M my sophomore year. I don't have any favorites right now."
It appears as though Joseph's parents prefer to have him attend a college relatively close to home.
"It doesn't matter to me, but it's really going to boil down to what my parents think. I believe I can go far off, but I don't know yet. When I take my official visits, I'm going to try to go far off to see if I can do it, but I don't know right now. I'm still up in the air."
Coach Brian Norwood is recruiting Joseph for Penn State. It had been previously reported that Bryant listed Penn State as one of his dream visits. Although he did not remember making that statement, he did acknowledge that the Nittany Lions are one of the teams in which he is interested.
"I plan on going to visit them. If I get the opportunity, I'm going to try to go to see what the environment is there."
What does he like about Penn State?
"I don't really know, I just know that Joe Paterno is one of the winningest coaches ever. It's kind of overwhelming, because I'm a country boy, that Penn State is interested in me. When they came down here in May, there was just something that caught my eye about them. I don't know if I'm going to visit, but I know they stick out a little bit right now."
