Nittany Lions Set to Kickoff

With August's arrival comes the kickoff of Penn State's preseason practices. Just days away, the Nittany Lions are gearing up to put the final touches on the 2006 edition of their squad. Get a rundown of the preseason practice schedule that kicks off Monday and what some of the players had to say about it.

With months conditioning sets and drills under their belts it's not surprising that the Penn State football players are ready to get the season underway. In fact the consensus seems to be that everyone is chomping at the bit to see some gameday action soon.

"We're all anxious, seeing how great of a team they had last year," freshman lineman Jared Odrick told FOS. "We just want to be a part of it. We're all here to work hard to try to get on the field as soon as possible."

"I have been anxious since I first got here to tell you the truth. These few years and off-season have been a learning experience. I am so excited to get the season started," Anthony Morelli said.

According to freshman wideout Chris Bell, "A lot of the freshman - me, Maurice Evans, Andrew Quarless and Jared Odrick - we're always saying we're ready for the season to start. We're tired of just running and lifting and we just want the season to start."

Here are some important dates related to the coming preseason practice.

August 7: Preseason practice kicks off
August 12: PSU Media Day
August 14: Two-a-days begin

The team is only allowed to have two-a-days every other day, so starting August 14th the typical week will look like the following:

Monday: two sessions
Tuesday: one session
Wednesday: two sessions
Thursday: one session
And so on.

Stay tuned to for continuing coverage of the Nittany Lions as they enter preseason drills.
