Powell Sets Two Visits

Scout.com four-star prospect Tydreke Powell is finding the narrowing down process of his recruitment much more difficult than he had expected. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle will have to move back his deadline to next Friday.

"I've got three more [schools] to go,” Powell said. “I have two, right now, [that will make the cut]. That would be Penn State and Miami.”

Powell, a product of Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County, is considering Florida, Florida State, Kansas, N.C. State, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech for the final three spots.

Up until his recent decision to open up his recruitment, Powell was considered a strong UNC lean. He admitted that the Tar Heels are strong candidates to take one of the final three slots.

Once the five schools have been established, Powell will officially visit each school. If selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Powell will announce his collegiate decision there.

Already, Powell has official visits scheduled with his two announced finalists.

“I got a Miami official visit set up for when they play Florida State [September 4th],” said Powell. “Penn State, that would be October the 14th when they play Michigan.”

In the meantime, Powell focuses on being a leader for Hertford County’s football team. Already a force at defensive tackle, Powell will take on the addition role of fullback in the Bears’ offense.

Powell kicks off his senior season Friday when Hertford County hosts Kinston (N.C.).
