PSU Zips to 34-16 Win Over Akron

Anthony Morelli kicked off his PSU career as a starter in style, with his first pass resulting in a 42 yard touchdown strike to Deon Butler. Morelli ended up going 16 for 32 for 206 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs. He also spread the ball around to six different targets, including true freshman Chris Bell who caught one ball for 19 yards.

Penn State had their ups and downs in a wet contest against Akron, but in the end won the game through the air with over 200 yards from Anthony Morelli. Jordan Norwood led receivers with seven receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown.

The defense played a solid game all around, containing Luke Getsy to 22 of 42 for 160 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, by Anthony Scirrotto and Nolan McCready.

Dan Connor led all tacklers with 13 tackles and two sacks. Tim Shaw, who saw several snaps as an upright defensive end, also pulled down Getsy twice.

Derrick Williams saw action in a variety of areas, with three receptions for 49 yards and 1 TD, three rushes for 4 yards, 1 KR for 19 yds., 3 PR for 44 yds.

Sidenotes: Austin Scott did not see action today. Patrick Hall was also kept out of action due to a reported suspension. Also Mark Brennan's official prediction was spot on 34-16 - congrats Mark!
