Ohio QB Looking At PSU?

According to recent reports, Todd Boeckman, who many believe to be the best quarterback in Ohio, has Penn State listed among his favorite teams. Are the reports accurate?

Name: Todd Boeckman
Position: QB
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 220 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.8
School: St Henry HS, St Henry, OH

It has recently been reported that Penn State was among Todd Boeckman's (pronounced BECK-man) favorites.

"I like Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Maryland," Todd said.  "Those are the top 3 right now.  If you want a top 5, you can mix in Purdue and Penn State.

"Right now Ohio State is my favorite."

Boeckman claims around 13-15 offers despite having told several schools that he was not interested.

"Penn State hasn't offered and Purdue said a while ago that they would probably offer if I went up for a visit.  I kind of told them I wasn't really interested in them that much at all really."

Todd decided to attend multiple football camps this summer in an effort to check out some of his favorites.

"I just went to the camps at Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Maryland.  They went real well.  It gave me a chance to check out the campuses and to see what they had there.  I kind of toured Pittsburgh and Maryland because I know Ohio State pretty well, it's pretty close and I've been up there a lot.  [Going to Pitt and Maryland] gave me a chance to see what they had to offer me as far as academics, facilities and everything like that.  That's basically what I did when I went to the camps there."

Contrary to another report, Todd did not attend Penn State's summer camp.  Although he did list the Nittany Lions in his top 5, he has not been in communication with PSU for a while now.

"I haven't really talked to them that much any more.  When I talked to them, I told them that I'm really not interested in them."

Boeckman has been thinking of making a decision soon.

"I was, but I don't know.  I want to, but I don't want to.  I want to get it over with, but I might want to take my official visits.  You want to take the time to look at the school during an official visit, but I you can't take an official visit until the football season starts in September.  I want to get it over with, but I kind of don't.  I just want to concentrate on my senior year, my last year."

Like Penn State, Ohio State has a relatively low number of scholarships to offer this year.  The Buckeyes have offered both Boeckman and quarterback Brady Quinn, who many believe challenges Todd as the top signal-caller in Ohio.

What has Ohio State told Boeckman about the number of quarterbacks they are looking to sign this year?

"I think they've only offered 2 right now, Brady Quinn and me.  I called them last week to see how they felt about the situation.  They told me that they want to take one, but if we happen to both commit there, they'll take us both."

According to Todd, he and Brady have become pretty good friends despite the fact that they are both vying for the affection of the Ohio State coaching staff.

Would a commitment by Quinn to the Buckeyes deter Todd from choosing OSU as well?

"No, it doesn't bother me, it doesn't bother me at all.  Wherever you go, you want to have a challenge and wherever you go you're going to have a challenge, there's going to be a top-notch quarterback there."

Comments:  I seems to me as though the only drama here is not whether or not Todd will commit to OSU, but when.  He and Penn State have not been in communication for a while and I don't see that changing any time soon since he doesn't appear to have any real interest in PSU despite the fact that he listed them in his top 5.  PSU is not in desperate need of QBs this year and may pass on recruiting any until next year.
